A combination of internships and a professional partnership with The Associated Press allow students to cover and/or support the Little League World Series every year. Some internships with Little League last throughout the summer while others are specific to the tournament itself in mid- to late August.

Likewise, media partnerships, with students creating content for the Associated Press, generally focus on the tournament itself. The students' work — stories, photos and vidoes — gets utilized by AP members all over the world. In addition, Penn State and Bellisario College student media organizations ("Centre County Report," CommMedia, The Daily Collegian and more) often cover the international event that happens about an hour or so from campus.

Support for the students in all of these endeavors comes from the John Curley Center for Sports Journalism and the Office of Internships and Career Services in the Bellisario College.

In 2026, students Owen Cameros, Alex Harkins and Lexie Linderman produced stories for the Associated Press. Their work included:

Student journalists Owen Cameros and Alex Harkins covered the culmination of the Little League World Series for the Associated Press.

In addition, photographers Jared Freed and Sam Balkansky shot for the Associated Press. Plus, Balkansky followed longtime ESPN broadcaster Karl Ravech for a feature story in The Washington Post about Ravech working his last games at the event.

Along with the high-profile media opportunity covering the Little League World Series, four students — Rylee Albany, Lorelei Kilka, Gina Scarpa and Kassandra Vassallas — participated in Little League's Residency Program and several, including Madeline Bader, completed internships with the organization. Bader was a digital media/web intern.
