Gillian Diebold

Gillian Diebold is a second-year Ph.D. student whose research examines how artificial intelligence companies exercise and legitimize political, economic, and epistemic power. Her work focuses on the ways industry influence becomes embedded in technological infrastructure, governance institutions, media systems, and knowledge production. Drawing on qualitative and comparative methods, she studies topics including AI governance, data labor, technology policy, and the growing role of AI firms in shaping public understanding of emerging technologies.

She holds an master's degree from the Oxford Internet Institute and a bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania in communication and political science. At Penn State, she is a University Graduate Fellow.
