Biography

Before coming to Penn State, Jing Xu earned her BA in journalism from Nanchang University and an MA in journalism from Jinan University in China.

Her research interests are centered on feminist media and critical cultural studies, specifically focusing on new media, digital labor and social identities.

She has previously conducted research in topics including Chinese feminist podcasting practices, the impact of algorithmic mobility on communities of migrant-turned-taxi drivers, as well as the networked practices of feminist media activism initiated by female IT engineers in China, etc,.

At Penn State, Jing would like to delve further into the intricate interplay of media technologies and gender politics in shaping certain people’s identities within transnational contexts.

In her free time, Jing finds pleasure in wandering around and photography.
