Biography

Michael Appleman is a director of content partnerships at NBCUniversal, where he oversees the licensing of NBC’s linear broadcast and cable networks, the Peacock streaming service and a portfolio of free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) channels. He’s worked across different partners ranging from major pay-tv distributors like Comcast, YouTube TV and Hulu Live TV to device partners like Samsung and Xumo. He has played a key role in advancing the distribution of NBC’s enhanced 4K and alternate broadcast experiences for major sports properties, including the Olympics, English Premier League, U.S. Open and The Open Championship.

Appleman began his career at NBCUniversal as a production assistant at MSNBC. He is currently based in Brooklyn, New York, and originally hails from the State College area.

He earned his undergraduate degree in broadcast journalism from Penn State, where he graduated from the Schreyer Honors College. His senior thesis, "From Stewart to Satire: Alternative Journalism in Late Night TV," explored the intersection of comedy and news media.

During his time at Penn State, Appleman was actively involved in local television and radio internships, served as a researcher for the Pennsylvania Center for the First Amendment, participated in intramural sports and worked at Allen Street Grill.Fil
