About Brno
At the heart of Europe, Brno is not only an internationally recognized city for industry, innovation and student life, but also an optimum gateway for exploring the beauty and complexities of European culture from its central location between Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest, Krakow and Prague.
Located in the region of South Moravia, Brno is the second largest city in the country. It is a smaller tourist destination than Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, but offers a unique atmosphere and an authentic relationship with Czech culture.
Visitors can experience a walkable city with modern architecture, trendy bistros, and Špilberk Castle — a 13th century hilltop fortress (Wishing on a Waterfall, 2020).
Brno is a young, university town with a unique atmosphere. Home to 13 universities, students will find it easy to navigate, affordable, and great for foodies (Masaryk University, 2019).
Support from the community and local universities has allowed Brno to thrive, and it has developed a reputation as central Europe’s Silicon Valley. Students will find a number of Czech and international businesses, successful start-ups, and IT talent. Red Hat, IBM, SAP, and Kiwi.com have all had success in this city of innovation.
