Meredith Clark, author of "We Tried to Tell Y'all: Black Twitter and the Rise of Digital Counternarratives," will discuss her work during a free public lecture. Clark, Ph.D., is an associate professor at the University of North Carolina. She's a former newspaper journalist whose research focuses on the intersections of race, media and power. Clark's award-winning dissertation on Black Twitter landed her on The Root 100, the news website's list of the most influential African Americans in the country, in 2015.

Lecture Series: Pockrass Memorial Lecture

Brooke Erin Duffy, a social media researcher, author and associate professor at Cornell University, will present a free public lecture titled "The Visibility Bind: Platform Labor, Precarity and Resistance in the Creator Economy." She is the author or co-author of three books and her areas of expertise include platforms and cultural production; gender and feminist media studies; and influencer labor and the creator economy. Duffy earned her bachelor's degree from Penn State, and both her master's degree and Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.

Lisa Krantz, University of Montana
Lecture Series: Davis Program in Ethical Leadership

Free public lecture by Lisa Krantz, Ph.D., an assistant professor at the University of Montana who's research explores the intersection of journalism and trauma, particularly how journalists cover mass shootings. Krantz spent 24 years as a newspaper photographer before pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of Missouri. She was part of the Washington Post team that won the 2024 Pulitzer Prize in national reporting for the series “American Icon.” She is also a two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist in feature photography. Krantz was awarded the 2025 Davis Penn State Ethics Award for her dissertation, “Embodying an Ethic of Empathy: Journalism’s Intersection with Victims’ Families, Survivors, and Community Members Impacted by the Mass Shooting in Uvalde, Texas.” Her lecture is sponsored by the Davis Program in Ethical Leadership.
