Communications Assistant
PolicyLab (Research Institute, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia)
This is a full-time Communications Assistant position offered through PolicyLab: Center to Bridge Research, Practice, and Policy at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The aim of PolicyLab is to achieve optimal child health and well-being by informing program and policy changes through interdisciplinary research.
PolicyLab offers this exciting opportunity to impact the organization’s mission by providing broad support to PolicyLab’s communications and strategy teams, as well as direct support to PolicyLab faculty on dissemination of their research and initiatives. This position will also help manage PolicyLab’s social media outreach.
The Communications Assistant position is ideal for an early-career communications professional with a background/interest in health who is looking to develop their skills in strategic communications planning, social media strategy and materials development. A strong foundation in writing and the ability to work well on a team are keys to success in this role. This position reports to the Communications Manager.
Job Responsibilities
- Strategize with PolicyLab researchers on dissemination strategies and tactics for their articles and other work, with a view towards broader public policy influence
- Edit, write and post blog posts on PolicyLab’s blog
- Draft social media content and develop social media analytics reports
- Identify new ways for PolicyLab to enhance its social media presence
- Assist in development of communications and policy materials
- Contribute to, edit and disseminate the PolicyLab internal and external newsletters
- Maintain/edit content on the PolicyLab website
- Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree with one (1) - three (3) years of communications experience
Experience with social media, particularly Twitter, required
Additional Technical Requirements
- Excellent communications skills (both written and oral)
- Able to perform tasks independently
- Able to work accurately and pay strict attention to detail
- Able to work in collaboration with other professionals and staff at the Hospital and within partner organizations
- Adaptable to do work which is varied and requires an intellectual and professional approach
- Must have strong writing, organizational, and time management skills
- Candidate should have an interest in and commitment to public health research and child health policy that aims to improve outcomes for children and families
