Overview:

CBS News and Stations is seeking a smart, creative, and hard-working Desk Assistant with a strong passion for journalism for its 24/7 News Services (Newspath) team. This position supports all members of the newsroom. Excellent people/customer service skills are required!

The ideal candidate is a teammate with exceptional organizational skills, is diligent, and has the ability to both multi-task and keep a calm head under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude. The candidate must be able to adjust to breaking news quickly!

Responsibilities:

  • Work with Producers and Associate Producers to capture elements for correspondent packages and NewspathNow.com, the platform used to distribute content to stations and affiliates.
  • Manage the retrieval of archive material
  • Researching stories
  • Setting up logistics for Zoom interviews and logging interviews for producers.
  • This position includes weekend hours and may also include night and overnight responsibilities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 1 year of experience in broadcast, cable or digital news preferred (strong internships considered)
  • Degree in broadcast journalism or related field preferred.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of broadcast networks and stations/markets a plus.
  • Available to work various schedules, including nights, overnights, and weekends
  • The candidate should have strong digital/social media skills, including proficiency with Facebook, Facebook Live, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, Instagram Stories, TikTok, and YouTube.
  • Be able to spot viral and pre-trending content and turn it around for our brand.
  • Must be proficient in the feel and best practices for social-friendly videos (including rights & clearances).
