The Lock Haven Express (Lock Haven, Pennsylvania)

The Lock Haven Express is looking to hire a full-time, entry-level staff reporter.

The newsroom is based in Lock Haven, about 45 minutes northeast of State College, but the position focuses heavily on Centre County, particularly the Bellefonte area. Reporters should also expect assignments throughout our broader coverage area, which includes Clinton County and portions of Lycoming County.

The beat regularly includes coverage of the Centre County Commissioners, Bellefonte Borough Council and Bellefonte Area School Board, as well as breaking news, feature writing and enterprise reporting. While the position comes with core coverage responsibilities, reporters are also encouraged to pitch and pursue stories that pique their interests and curiosity.

The position is a great fit for a recent graduate, or for a senior at University Park who is able to commute. While the newspaper is primarily seeking a full-time hire, it is open to part-time arrangements for qualified students finishing their degrees, with the possibility of transitioning to full-time after graduation. The schedule is flexible, though a typical workday is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The newsroom is young, collaborative and relatively informal by industry standards, making it an excellent environment for early-career journalists to gain hands-on reporting experience.
