Job description
Under the direction of two publicists this position will support major publicity campaigns across a variety of fiction and non-fiction HMH trade titles per season. This role will assist with the execution of media campaigns and events. The Publicity Assistant role requires a strong degree of multitasking, a sharp focus for details, an ability to find the humor in chaos and an innate sense of urgency to promptly respond to team and media requests. We’re looking for someone clever, thoughtful and tenacious.

He/she must have a passion for books, the book publishing industry and the media world, a “can-do” attitude and a hunger to master the basics of publicity. This includes media pitching, industry research, social media tracking, event coordination, press material writing and designing.

Key Responsibilities:
Compose first drafts for pitches and press materials
Maintain multiple press lists with Cision PR Software
Assist with event and author tour planning and maintaining event costs/budgets
Track and maintain media coverage and press clippings across multiple titles per season
Research book event venues and create first draft travel itineraries for author tours
Perform administrative duties including booking travel and accommodations, organizing expense reports, managing mailing room logistics, mailing packages, arranging author meetings
Qualifications:
Publicity/publishing internship or equivalent work experience.
Excellent project management and organization skills, previous event management experience preferred
Excellent writing and editing skills, often asked to edit the work of others, and knowledge of the AP style of writing/editing
Excellent verbal communications skills
Experience with Cision PR Software, Microsoft Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)
Demonstrated ability as a self-starter, detail-oriented, with strong editing and computer graphics skills
Team player with leadership skills. Ability and desire to interact with people at all management levels
Familiarity with marketing/communications concepts and practices
B.A. or B.S. in Journalism, English, History or equivalent
Physical Requirements:

• Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing).
• The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
• Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.
