Duties
The Staff Writer reports to and supports the Director of Communications in promoting the work of Annenberg School for Communication (ASC) faculty and students to both internal and external constituents.

The primary responsibility of the Staff Writer is the reporting and writing of news stories and press releases about the Annenberg School and the work of its faculty and students. This position will help to identify stories by networking with various constituencies within the school, be responsible for the creation of the ASC@Penn News Digest, and assist with the preparation of Annenberg Now, an email newsletter.

In addition, this position will help promote Annenberg’s content to both internal Penn and external audiences, including researching journalists, pitching stories to the media, developing relationships with journalists over time, and helping to spread the word about Annenberg and the work of its community.

This position will also help to maintain the school’s social media accounts, both in promoting our work and responding to others with whom we interact. Other responsibilities include routine web maintenance, updating the lobby video screen with current content, helping to organize video shoots, and participating as a member of the ASC creative team, which includes working with other team members to continually evaluate and refine our communications and develop new ways to raise the visibility of Annenberg faculty and students.

Qualifications
A Bachelor’s Degree and 0 to 1 of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required; 3 to 5 years of experience strongly preferred. At least 3 years of experience as a professional writer strongly preferred. Must have an excellent command of language, grammar, spelling, and punctuation, with a good eye for detail. Successful applicants will have a demonstrated ability to write effectively on a variety of topics. Experience in journalism and/or writing for higher education or non-profit organizations, as well as knowledge of an academic environment are a plus. Experience using a CMS and a variety of social media platforms is required. Must have the ability to relate comfortably to faculty and students, and must be able to work collaboratively as well as independently.
