Universal Copy Desk (two-year associate)

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has an opening for a 2-year associate on the universal copy desk.

The associates program is an important tool to get younger journalists (i.e., recent college graduates with less than 18 months experience working for a newspaper or comparable media organization) into the newsroom.

Associates are paid an intern’s salary ($26,723 in the first year, $29,302 in the second year). Those figures include the health care diversion.

There is a 90-day probationary period. After two years are complete, the associate may or may not be offered a permanent position. If the associate is offered a position, the salary will be $58,349 starting for the third year.
