Biography

Ann Marie Major worked in advertising and public relations before earning her Ph.D. She is an accredited member (APR) of the Public Relations Society of America and has served in national leadership positions. She has interests in media discourse about risk, diversity, and emergencies. She has authored articles in Public Understanding of Science, Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, the International Journal of Mass Emergencies and Disasters, the Journal of Public Relations Research, Public Relations Review, the International Journal of Public Opinion Research, Public Relations magazine, and the Proceedings of the American Academy of Advertising. Her recent book chapters have been published in Green Voices: Defending Nature and the Environment in American Civic Discourse (SUNY Press) and Handbook of Emergency Response: A Human Factors and Systems Engineering Approach.

She is co-author of the book Good-Bye Gweilo: Public Opinion and the 1997 Problem in Hong Kong. Her current research focuses on the intersection of public opinion, news discourse, and emergency response.
