Biography

Chenchen Zou’s research focuses on nationalism, intercultural communication, fans and popular culture and intersectional feminism. She is interested in the tension between feminism and nationalism and how these concepts are spread and perceived, especially in the Chinese context.

She earned her master’s degree in media and communications (research) at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Chenchen’s recent study examines how Chinese female fans negotiate their gender identity with national identity in the agenda of “nationalistic cancel culture” targeting celebrities from other countries. Her research has appeared in journals such as Transformative Works and Cultures.
