Jared LaGroue

Jared LaGroue hails from the small mountain town of Lake Almanor, California. He pursued his bachelor’s degree in telecommunications (media production) and master’s in communication (media studies) from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. After working in both the film and music industries, he developed a fascination with the role music plays in shaping interpretations of meaning from multimedia. He also developed a concern regarding the creative-legal economy confronting amateur media producers. His research interests include critical information studies (digital media policy, semiotic democracy, monopolies of knowledge), the semiotics of sound (aesthetic philosophy, medium theory, emotion and narrative), and critical/cultural/media theory (poststructuralism, media ecology).
