Biography
Jiayun's (she/her) research primarily concerns the interactions between gender politics and digital media in the broader Chinese context. In particular, she explores (1) the gender politics baked into Chinese digital culture, (2) how people resist gendered oppression, perform gender-related social advocacy, and navigate gender-political conflicts through their digital media engagement and communication, and (3) how such media use and communication practices, in turn, affect their psychological well-being, especially regarding identity formation, social connectedness and social support.
Her research spans feminist media studies, digital culture and activism, intersectionality, power and resistance, media technology and psychological well-being.
She earned her research master’s degree in mass communication at the University of Wisconsin and her bachelor's degree in journalism at Wuhan University.
