Lars Stoltzfus-Brown is a Ph.D. candidate in mass communications with a minor in women's, gender, and sexuality studies. They have two main research areas: feminist political economy of media and strategic media use among fundamentalist groups. Some examples of how these foci are expressed are research on the political economy of comic book film adaptations; transgender-exclusionary discourse in feminist movements; and the role of media in identity formation among LGBTQIA+ ex-Amish individuals. While this may seem like disparate realms of work, Stoltzfus-Brown's writing is concerned with questions of media and power, ontology, and structural oppression of marginalized groups. Lars enjoys teaching and has taught courses on political economy of media, media and democracy, and gender, diversity, and media; they previously taught public speaking and interpersonal communication. They also do service work with the LGBTQ Resource Center at Penn State and the Graduate Professional & Student Association.
