Hailing from the St. Louis area, Stephanie Orme earned her bachelor’s degree in communication at Illinois State University, where she was president of ISU’s nationally-acclaimed speech team and also worked as a copy editor for the college newspaper. After graduating in 2010, Orme moved to Boston to attend Suffolk University for her master’s degree in communication. She was named the Outstanding Graduate Student for the 2012 class. Since finishing her degree, she has been adjunct teaching at Suffolk University and Emerson College in Boston. As a Ph.D. student at Penn State, she is studying feminist media studies, focusing on how gender, race and other social identities are (re)created and contested in “geek” media such as video games and comic books.
